Mental health has become one of the biggest challenges of our time. Stress, burnout, and anxiety are widespread, yet many people hesitate to seek counselling due to cost, stigma, or lack of access. In Korea alone, surveys show that nearly three out of four people experience mental health issues, but very few receive treatment. Around the world, meditation has emerged as an accessible tool to restore balance, improve focus, and support emotional well-being. Still, traditional methods—whether in-person or through audio-only mobile apps—often leave beginners unsure if they are “doing it right.”
That is the problem NP Inc. set out to solve with MUA (short for “The Moment You Are”), an Extended Reality (XR) meditation solution that blends immersive virtual environments with biometric-driven personalization. NP, a Korean company best known for producing the visuals of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics and other large-scale cultural events, has spent the last few years expanding into XR content and wellness technology. In 2021, it became the first company in its sector to be listed on KOSDAQ, and today it sees meditation as a global opportunity.
MUA works by combining a VR headset with wearable devices such as smartwatches and fitness rings. These wearables feed real-time biometric data—heart rate, heart rate variability, oxygen levels, step count, and sleep quality—into NP’s proprietary MIND-C AI algorithm.
The system then interprets this data using models of human emotion, mapping users’ states onto a mood framework developed with Korean research institutes. The app can recognize when a person is stressed, fatigued, or distracted, and automatically suggest the right type of meditation, whether it’s deep focus, body scan, or a lighter “mindless” session for quick recovery. Over time, the AI learns each individual’s emotional baseline, refining recommendations with every use.
The innovation here lies in two areas. First, XR immersion. Traditional mindfulness programs, such as MBSR, often require weeks of practice before achieving deeper states of concentration. By contrast, NP’s XR environments—complete with surreal landscapes, guided voices, and carefully balanced soundscapes—can help users achieve focus within minutes.
Second, personalization. Where most meditation apps rely on generic audio, MUA adapts content to the user’s physiological and psychological state in real time, even showing biometric changes before and after each session so users can see their progress.
Traditionally, meditation has been taught in physical spaces or delivered through apps like Calm or Headspace. These approaches broadened access but still depend on self-discipline and imagination. XR meditation removes much of that burden: instead of wondering, “Am I meditating correctly?” users are guided into environments where visuals, sound, and biofeedback work together to reduce stress and enhance clarity. Academic research increasingly supports the claim that XR-based meditation provides more stable and immersive results, especially for beginners.
NP has also thought beyond personal devices. Recognizing that not everyone owns a VR headset, the company is developing MUA POD, a modular meditation booth equipped with smart mirrors and controlled lighting, sound, and even scent. These pods can be deployed in offices, resorts, military bases, or hospitals, providing groups with access to the same emotion-driven meditation experience without requiring individual hardware.
Founded in 2006, NP Inc. has built a reputation as a creative powerhouse, delivering experiences that mix technology with human emotion—from Olympic ceremonies to immersive festivals. With MUA, the company is channeling that expertise into a new mission: making mental wellness more accessible, measurable, and sustainable. Already piloted in about ten countries, with North America leading adoption thanks to high VR penetration, NP is positioning MUA as both a consumer app and a corporate wellness platform. The company envisions its technology evolving into a fully recognized digital therapeutic, bridging the gap between wellness and clinical treatment.
As meditation becomes a mainstream practice for professionals, celebrities, and everyday users, NP’s approach suggests a future where technology doesn’t just entertain or inform—but actively supports emotional resilience in daily life.
