Contactless payment methods, such as Apple Pay and Google Pay, have become an integral part of many people’s daily routines, making it easy to make quick purchases without pulling out your wallet. Now, Cash App is enabling you to use Apple Pay and Google Pay with its service for the first time, though only through one feature.

Cash App has introduced a new Pools feature for group purchases, allowing users to invite friends and family to contribute money to a pool for large expenses, like a group vacation or a wedding gift. What’s notable is that, for the first time, Cash App will support external payments from both Apple Pay and Google Pay for its Pools feature.

So, if you have a Cash App account, you can easily contribute to a pool using the app. If somebody you know doesn’t have a Cash App account but wants to contribute, they can do so via a shareable link created by the pool’s organizer.

“With pools, our customers now have a dedicated, easy-to-use solution for group payments: they can start a pool to collect the money in seconds, and then instantly transfer the funds to their Cash App balance when it’s time to pay,” Cash App said in a press release.

Cash App’s Pools feature isn’t available to all users yet

Organizers can assign a name to the pool and establish a contribution goal

If you’re a Cash App user and want to try out this new Pools feature with friends or family, you may or may not have access to it yet. Block, the company behind CashApp, says the feature is rolling out now but only to a “select group of Cash App customers.” However, Block says that it plans to roll out the feature more widely to all Cash App users “in the coming months.”

When a Cash App user sets up a pool, they can assign a name and a goal amount, then invite their friends and family on Cash App to contribute to it using their $cashtag. When the feature is rolled out, users will be able to find the Pools feature under the Payments tab. As I mentioned earlier, the unique aspect of this Pools feature is that if you know someone who wants to contribute to a pool but doesn’t have Cash App, the organizer can send a shareable link that they can use to contribute using Google Pay or Apple Pay.

I see this feature being convenient for easily tracking group payments. I can already imagine myself using it with friends for all those trips we discuss in our group chat, but never actually plan or save up for. Plus, it’s great that this feature supports Google Pay and Apple Pay, making it much more accessible.
